Cane Corso Registration

The majority of Cane Corsos in the United States are registered with either the ICCF (International Cane Corso Federation) or FIC (Federation of International Canines).  Please note: FIC should not be confused with FCI (Federation Cynologicue Internationale).  Both the ICCF & FIC registries are privately owned and the paperwork is only recognized within the U.S.  There are several other smaller registries as well, but again, they are privately owned and not recognized outside of the U.S.

Cane Corsos imported from Italy should have ENCI paperwork.  ENCI is the FCI recognized registry for Italy.  FCI is a worldwide organization.  FCI is not a registry.  Each FCI country of origin maintains it's own registry.  You should receive ENCI paperwork on any Cane Corso imported from Italy.  This can, however, take up to 12 months.  It is not possible to register a litter of pups born in the U.S. with ENCI.  You will need to convert your ENCI paperwork to a FCI registry affiliated with the USA such as FCPR, Federacion Canofila de Puerto Rico.

Registering with the American Kennel Club Foundation Stock Service

Contact the AKC customer relations at 919-233-9767 to request the FSS application. A pedigree issued by an acceptable domestic or foreign registry is required ( ENCI or ICCF).  The AKC FSS requires that  3 generations on  the pedigree have registration numbers.  Photographs of the dogs front and side view will be needed.   The cost is $35.00.  Litter registration is also available for $20 pending that both parents are FSS registered.

It is a good idea to go ahead and register  your dog with the AKC FSS while they are still accepting ICCF registration.  In 2001 the majority of the ICCF membership voted to not go AKC.   Recently, the ICCF Club took another vote and the majority or the membership voted to seek AKC recognition, however, this still does not change the importance of registering AKC FSS as the ICCF Registry is privately owned and not controlled by the club and there is no guarantee that the owners of the registry will comply with the AKC and hand over the data from the registry if and when the AKC decides to recognize the Cane Corso.   The ICCF also publicly urges people to register AKC FSS, reinforcing what we have been recommending for the past 3 years.  The main problem which Cane Corso owners have been faced with in registering with the AKC FSS is that the pedigrees do not have 3 generations of registration numbers since many of foundation stock dogs did not have any type of registration papers.

Registering with the FCI recognized Federation in Puerto Rico

In order to transfer your ENCI paperwork to FCPR you will need to send  the original ENCI pedigree along with a letter asking  for your dog to be registered with them and for the original pedigree to be returned.  Also enclose proof that the dog was sold/transferred to you, your name, address and phone number.  The cost is $55.00 made payable to "Federacion Canofila de Puerto Rico".   ICCF or FIC papers and pedigree are not acceptable.  In some cases AKC FSS papers are accepted as well.  This process has been known to take up to 6 months.

Their is an English speaking administrator there on Mondays and Tuesdays, Sonnia Sierra.
